PreRequirements:
Minimum age: 15 years old.
Certified Open Water Diver (or equivalent certification).
General good health and swimming skills.
What you will learn:
The SDI Hunter/Collector Diver course teaches responsible and sustainable underwater hunting and collecting techniques:
Underwater Navigation: Learn how to effectively locate and return to targeted collection areas.
Equipment Use: Familiarize yourself with tools such as catch bags, tickle sticks, and spears.
Species Identification: Understand how to identify legal and sustainable species for collection.
Regulations and Ethics: Learn about local laws, regulations, and ethical practices for hunting and collecting.
Safety Protocols: Develop skills for safe handling of collected specimens and managing underwater hunting tools.
Course content:
Knowledge Development:
Classroom sessions covering species identification, sustainable practices, and local regulations.
Dive planning for hunter/collector dives, including site selection and safety considerations.
Confined Water Training (Optional):
Practice using collection tools and refining buoyancy control in a controlled environment.
Open Water Dives:
Dive 1: Introduction to navigation, buoyancy control, and tool use during a hunting dive.
Dive 2: Practice collection techniques while adhering to sustainability guidelines.
Dive 3: Advanced dive focusing on locating and safely handling specimens in more challenging conditions.
Final Assessment:
Demonstrate proficiency in navigation, collection techniques, and adherence to regulations.
Certification as an SDI Hunter/Collector Diver, qualifying you to responsibly hunt and collect underwater.
