SDI Instructor

Become a certified SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor with Good Divers! This intensive course prepares experienced Divemasters or Assistant Instructors to safely and effectively teach scuba diving at the professional level. The program is divided into two sections: the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and the Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC). Gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to inspire the next generation of divers.

PreRequirements:
• Minimum age: 18 years old
• Certified diver for a minimum of 6 months
• 100 logged dives in different environments with varying depths
• Certified as an SDI Divemaster, SDI Assistant Instructor, or equivalent
• Valid CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Provider certification (where applicable)
• SDI CPROX1stAED certification may be combined with the SDI Divemaster program
What you will learn:
The SDI Instructor Course equips candidates with the skills to effectively train and certify divers at the Open Water level:
• Teaching Techniques: Develop classroom, confined water, and open water teaching skills
• Dive Leadership: Learn how to plan, organize, and lead training dives
• Risk Management: Understand liability, emergency response, and safety protocols
• Skill Demonstrations: Master precise demonstrations of key diving skills
• Student Evaluation: Learn how to assess and guide student performance
• Equipment & Course Management: Develop skills in gear handling, course logistics, and student progression
Course content:
📌 Knowledge Development
• In-depth classroom sessions on instructional techniques, diver psychology, and SDI standards
• Understanding of dive theory, including physics, physiology, and decompression concepts
📌 Confined Water Training
• Practice teaching techniques in a pool or confined water setting
• Demonstrate skill proficiency and proper student instruction methods
📌 Open Water Dives
• Day 1-2: Teaching foundational skills in an open-water setting
• Day 3-5: Conducting full training dives with student simulations
• Day 6-8: Evaluation of instructional performance and skill demonstrations
📌 Final Evaluation
• Complete written exams, practical skill assessments, and teaching evaluations
• Upon successful completion, receive SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification
